As the leaves begin to cover the streets with a carpet of ochre tones and the chilly breeze welcomes us to autumn, at Picarol Nursery we prepare for one of the most heartwarming festivities in Catalonia: La Castanyada. This tradition, which coexists with the spirit of Halloween, invites us to celebrate the simplest pleasures of the season: the sweet taste of roasted chestnuts and the warmth of shared stories.
The Tradition of La Castanyada:
La Castanyada is a tribute to the earth and its fruits—an opportunity to teach our little ones the importance of traditions and the natural cycle of the seasons. At Picarol, our beloved Castanyera visits each classroom with her basket full of hot chestnuts, sharing not only this tasty treat, but also stories and songs passed down through generations.
Workshops and Activities:
But La Castanyada is much more than chestnuts. Through hands-on craft workshops, the children create their own decorative pumpkins and colorful panellet figures. Learning by doing is at the heart of our educational philosophy—and what better way to learn than by getting their hands in the dough, creating treats they will later share with their families?
Cultural Coexistence: Halloween and La Castanyada:
We understand that globalization brings new ways to see and experience celebrations. That’s why, at Picarol, La Castanyada also dresses up for Halloween—with costumes and games that allow the children to explore other cultures while keeping our own traditions alive. It’s a joyful fusion where imagination knows no bounds and cultural diversity thrives.
La Castanyada at Picarol Nursery is a celebration from the heart, where emotions and memories are built around a table filled with chestnuts and panellets. It’s our invitation to families to pause for a moment, enjoy each other’s company, and create lasting memories that children will carry with them forever.zills de la temporada: el sabor dolç de les castanyes torrades i el caliu de les històries compartides.
